A2A acquires permit to build one of largest solar farms in northern Italy

A2A, opens new tab said on Tuesday it acquired a majority shareholding in a solar venture, in a new step towards the construction of one of the largest photovoltaic plants in northern Italy.

The country’s regional utility company bought a 70% stake in Parco Solare Friulano, which owns the permit for the construction and running of a solar project with a capacity of 112.1 megawatts at peak (MWp), in two towns close to the northern city of Udine.

The investment, in addition to a previously approved solar farm in the same area, will allow A2A to set up a project with total installed capacity of more than 150 MWp.

This solar development will help A2A accelerate the path towards the goal of 5.7 gigawatt (GW) of installed capacity from renewable sources by 2035 – set in the group’s business plan – A2A Chief Executive Renato Mazzoncini said.

“This project, the most significant in the photovoltaic sector in Northern Italy, will… contribute to the decarbonisation of an area characterised by great industrial dynamism,” Mazzoncini added in a statement.
