Prestigious Think Energy SDG award category named after Ghana Gas CEO Dr Ben Asante
The prestigious SDG Energy Media Personality of the Year category of this year’s SDG Energy awards has been named after the chief executive officer of the Ghana National Gas Company Ltd, Dr Ben Asante.
The category is now dubbed “The Dr Ben Asante SDG Energy Media Personality of the Year”.
The nominees for the 2024 Dr Ben Asante SDG Energy Media Personality of the Year include renowned media personalities, Kwame Sefa Kayi, Nana Yaa Brefo, Alfred Ocansey, Emmanuel Aboagye-Wiafe (Last winner), Kojo Yankson, Doreen Andoh, Bernard Avle and Rebecca Awuah.
This year’s winner takes home a cash reward of US$1,000 plus a citation.
At the maiden award ceremony last year, Dr Ben Asante, won the Transformational Leader of the Year Award at the Think Energy SDG Awards Night on Friday, 30 June at the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel, Accra.
The CEO of Ghana Gas, who has played a key role in Ghana’s energy sector with the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant, was honoured for his transformational leadership of the gas company.
Dr Asante has over 25 years of experience in the oil and gas industry.
He was the technical Director of Ghana’s first Gas Infrastructure project and also developed the gas infrastructure master plan for Ghana in 2008.
He has also served as a consultant to the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) and provided engineering services, project management and technical support for various projects across the world including UAE, Argentina, Brazil, Canada, China, Mexico, Russia, Thailand and USA.
He has worked for major companies including Nova/TransCanada and Enron and Jacobs Engineering.
Dr. Ben Asante is a product of Mfantsipim school and holds a BSc in Chemical Engineering (KNUST, Ghana), and an MSc in Chemical Engineering from the University of Calgary, Canada.
He also has a PhD in Chemical Engineering from Imperial College, London /University of Calgary and has taught gas processing and pipeline engineering at Imperial College, UK and KNUST, Ghana.
The year’s event
The award ceremony currently in its second year is aimed at celebrating excellence, innovation and impact of the respective individuals and organizations on clean energy, energy efficiency and energy access.
Again, the Think Energy SDGs Awards is a prestigious award designed to celebrate and honour corporate and academic institutions working together to achieve.
This year’s most anticipated SDG awards now comes off from the 11th of July to the 13th of July 2024 at the Volta Hotel in Akosombo.
The three-day event was initially scheduled for 28 to 29 June 2024.
The event promises to be very insightful with various stakeholders and personalities gracing the occasion.
This year’s event will be in three sessions- ESG 2024 Summit, Expo and SDG awards.
The awards ceremony forms part of the African Energy and Sustainable Summit, which is a global prestigious award designed to celebrate and honour corporate and academic institutions working together to achieve global leadership on SDGs 4,7,13, 14, and 17.
It is aimed at encouraging corporate entities and individuals to come up with innovative technologies to solve societal challenges, positively impact the environment, and ensure sustainable use of energy resources.
